We know what a simple bar graph is, it is a representation of data that uses single bars of varying heights to depict data. However, it is essential to know about two other bar graphs that play a vital role in mathematics and statistics. Double bar graph and Bar line graph are the other two major bar graphs that we would be familiarising in this article.

Double Bar Graph

A double bar graph is a graphical representation of data that uses two bars placed on top of each other at various heights. The bars can be placed both vertically and horizontally. When comparing two groups of data, a double bar graph might be helpful

There must be two axes in a double bar graph. A double bar graph's x-axis represents the categories being compared, while the y-axis denotes the scale. A scale is a collection of figures that represent data at equal intervals. It's important to note that every double bar graph needs a title. The title of the double bar graph informs the viewer about what is being measured and compared. A key is included in a double bar graph. Different shades will be used to illustrate the groups being compared in a double bar graph.

 

Examples of Double Graph Representation

We can use a double bar graph to understand data and answer queries such as:

  • What are the two groups being compared?
  • Boys and girls are compared in this double bar graph.
  • Which sport is the most popular among students?

Bar Line Graph

The vertical axis could be anything, but the horizontal axis is usually used to indicate time. A trend over time or at least over any number that rises sequentially, such as distance from a given point, is implied by the continuous line (or lines).


Bar line graphs differ not only in appearance from bar graphs (since thin lines rather than massive blocks are plotted on the axes), but they also differ significantly in function. By using several lines instead of just one, bar line graphs can illustrate patterns in a variety of quantities throughout time.

 

How is a bar graph and bar line graph different?

The association between a dependent variable and an independent variable is represented in a graph. A bar graph represents a comparison between different categories. A histogram is a bar graph that represents the amount in periods. A bar line graph is used to depict data that changes over time in a consistent manner.

 

Line bar graphs come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

  • Only one line is plotted on the graph in a simple line bar graph.
  • More than one line is plotted on the same set of axes in a multiple-line bar graph. To compare similar objects during the same time period, a multiple line bar graph is utilized.
  • A compound line graph is used when information can be divided into two or more categories of data. This type of line graph is known as a compound line bar graph. Lines are drawn to illustrate the component parts of a total. The top line depicts the entire, while the bottom line depicts a portion of the total. The size of each component is affected by the difference between each pair of lines.
