What is Aadhaar Card? Know its benefits, requirements and uses.

This number will be the proof of identity and address of the person, anywhere in India. Received by Indian Post and UIDAI.

The e-Aadhaar downloaded from the website of both is equally valid. Any person can enroll for Aadhaar provided he is a resident of India and UIDAI.

Completes the verification process set by, regardless of its age and gender. Each person can enroll only once.

Enrollment is free. An aadhaar card is only an identity card and is not a certificate of citizenship.

Aadhaar is the world's largest biometric ID system. World Bank chief economist Paul Romer described Aadhaar as "the most sophisticated ID program in the world".

Considered proof of residence and not proof of citizenship, Aadhaar itself does not confer any right of residence in India.

In June 2017, the Home Ministry clarified that Aadhaar is not a valid identity document for Indians traveling to Nepal and Bhutan.

Despite the comparison, India's Aadhaar project is nothing like the United States' Social Security number because it has more usage and less security.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, following the provisions of the Aadhaar Act 2016.

UIDAI is mandated to assign a 12-digit Unique Identification (UID) number (called "Aadhaar") to all residents of India.

The implementation of the UID scheme involves the generation and assignment of UIDs to residents; Defining mechanisms and procedures for connecting UIDs with partner databases;  Operation and management of all phases of the UID life cycle; To formulate policies and procedures to update mechanisms and define the use and applicability of UIDs for delivery of various services.

This number is associated with the resident's basic demographic and biometric information such as one picture, ten fingerprints, and two iris scans, which are stored in a centralized database.

UIDAI was launched by the Government of India in January 2009 as an attached office under the Planning Commission through a notification in the Gazette of India.

According to the notification, UIDAI was given the responsibility of setting plans and policies to implement the UID scheme to implement and operate the UID scheme and to be responsible for updates and maintenance on its basis.

The UIDAI Data Center is located in the Industrial Model Township (IMT), Manesar, which was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupendra Singh Hooda on 7 January 2013.  Aadhaar data is kept in about 7,000 servers in Bengaluru and Manesar.
