Shivjeet, a poor college boy, meets Bani, a modern, affluent girl. Qismat 2 begins in flashback with college sports coach Shiv (Amy Virk) reminiscing about his love for Bani (Sargun Mehta) as a college student. With her salt-and-pepper beard, Ammi brings maturity to Shiva twice, once initially as a coach, and the second time as he travels to the UK in search of Bani. With this film, Amy learns to play with her natural strengths – of vulnerable expressions, which adds pride to her character as a thoughtful person.

In the first half, Sargun naturally portrays the pub-hopping, fun-loving college student. Later, descending into the skin of a grieving widow, Sargun makes a smooth transition from fun to sad. When Bani swings between a widow who fights against loving another man and betrays her husband’s memory, for her affection for Shiva, Sargun has truly come to her personal best.

What stands out from all the promos and trailer of the film is the surprise character, Taniya, who plays a medical student killed by her college coach, Shiva, who is sporting a short bob. Not only is Tania’s hairdo novelty, she is also refreshing to bring out the character from within the actor. Of course, the other surprise in the film is the lyricist Jani, who makes a cameo appearance as Bani’s husband.
While Ammi, Sargun and Tania have been busy narrating the story from different times, director Jagdeep Sidhu plays the captain of Qismat 2 with an emotional spontaneity that is hard to find in Punjabi cinema. Jagdeep has portrayed his heart very literally on screen, and has ensured that the story makes the audience cry. It’s because the characters have outgrown their weaknesses, which is what makes this story so poignant.
