Israel and Sudan's key points in the Washington-brokered Deal

Under this agreement, Sudan will become the third Arab country to establish normal relations with Israel in the last two months.

Earlier, Bahrain-Israel Agreement was announced on 11 September following the declaration of 'Israel-UAE Peace Agreement' on 13 August 2020.  Among other countries, Egypt entered into 'peace agreements' with Israel in 1979 and Jordan in 1994.

As part of the agreement, steps have been taken to remove Sudan from the US government's 'black list'.

The Trump administration was formally announced to remove Sudan from the 'black list' of terrorism.  However, the President's decision still needs to be approved by the Congress.

It has been agreed by Sudan and Israel to abandon aggressive policy against each other and to start economic and trade relations.  The agreement will primarily focus on agriculture.

What is Sudan Israel Relations

The army was sent by Sudan to fight against Israel in the war during the creation of Israel in 1948 and the 'Six-Day War' of 1967.

Jordan captured the 'West Bank' territory in the First Arab-Israeli War in 1948, but recaptured it after the Arab countries lost in the Third Arab-Israeli War (Six-Day War) in 1967.  .

In the 1970s, Sudanese rebels were supported by Israel to fight against the government of Khartoum (the capital of Sudan).

In the year 2019, Sudan's dictator Ruler Omar al-Bashir established close relations with Saudi Arabia in place of Iran before its fall.

In recent years there has been increased contact between the intelligence services of Israel and Sudan.  Israel has been allowed by Sudan to fly over its territory.

How is the global response in the Sudan Israel relationship?

US allies: Germany, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, including US allies have welcomed the agreement.  These countries believe that the agreement is important from the point of view of promoting stability in West Asia.

Palestine: The agreement has been strongly criticized by Palestinian leaders.  The fact to note here is that in the past, Palestine has also criticized the peace deal reached by the UAE and Bahrain with Israel.

Iran: Iran has been a major supporter of Palestine.  Iran said that Sudan has done a shameful act by backing the agreement.  Iran believes that the agreement has been supported by Sudan because it will then be excluded from the terrorists 'black list' and Iran will not react to crimes against Palestinians.

Importance Of Sudan Israel Agreement

Apart from the UAE and Bahrain, the peace deal with Sudan will have a positive psychological effect on Israel.  Countries that had previously been widely opposed to Israel have emerged as strong supporters of it at present.

Sudan is currently facing problems such as internal conflicts, political turmoil, a crushing economy, an increase in food and fuel prices.  With the implementation of the agreement, Sudan will now be able to obtain loans and funding from the US.

Challenges before Sudan-Israel Agreement

Conflict between the US and Sudan over the determination of terrorism sponsors 'black list' can be seen as the US wants the necessary legal claims of the peace deal to be settled before the determination of the 'black list'.

It is worth noting here that the Sudan dictator was accused by the US of providing significant assistance to many other terrorists, including the Osama bin Laden group.

Conclusion

The implementation of the peace agreement will determine America's role in East Africa, but judging by the resistance against terrorism in Sudan, the decision to remove Sudan from the 'black list' of terrorists should not be made on the basis of the Sudan-Israel peace deal.
